EMOTIVE DOMINION
Athletic competition can be as straightforward as racing to a finish line, as simple as striking a ball, or as physically demanding as blocking an opponent’s advance. In every form, it demands a seamless coordination of body and mind, where strategies are created, abandoned, and adjusted in moments, often in response to an opponent's moves.
Central to all competitive action are the hands. Whether grasping, grappling, supporting, or entwining, they embody the physical essence of triumph and loss. Raised in victory or dropped in defeat, they serve as expressive extensions of the competitor’s inner struggle. Through the intricate, powerful movements of the hands, a spectator can discern the emotional and mental currents driving each athlete.
In Emotive Dominion, I freeze these fleeting moments of athletic conflict with my camera, timing my captures to focus on the hands as they channel strength, dominance, and resolve. The resulting images reveal not just the physicality of competition but also the raw emotions and mental battles playing out within the athletes (to read more about the collection click here).

Anticipation
This art print captures the tension and poise of a pivotal moment in athletic competition, focusing on the hands that hold the discus with determination. The detailed, textured portrayal of the athlete's hands reveals both power and restraint as if the entire contest rests within their grasp. This grip reflects the weight of expectation and speaks to the delicate balance between preparation and action, where every muscle and fiber is focused on the task ahead.
Holding On
In this art print, the hands do more than hold; they represent the inner resolve to persevere, the strength found in numbers, and the power of human connection. Each hand is part of a larger whole, bound together by a shared goal, reflecting the determination required to endure challenges and maintain focus under pressure. "Holding On" captures the raw intensity of collective effort, as multiple hands clasp tightly around a single object, each grip reinforcing the other.
Powerful Grace
The simplicity of the composition in this art print—one arm, one ball, and a blank background—brings focus to the purity of the action. The dynamic capture speaks to the essence of performance, where all the preparation and strategy come down to a single, critical release. The viewer can almost feel the energy being transferred as the sphere begins its journey, guided by the athlete’s will. The art of minimalism highlights the athlete's control over both body and object, offering a glimpse into the grace and power inherent in the act of competition.
Respect
The foundation of mutual athletic competition requires an ability to respect a competitor. Without respect, competition devolves through hate, fear and loathing into ungoverned chaos. This art print depicts the simple act of shaking hands before the onset of athletic competition. Both sides desire and strive to win, to exert dominance over the other, to do whatever it takes to come out on top at the conclusion of the event. Yet, without mutual respect, an actual form of warfare could break out during competition, leading to unwanted and unforeseen consequences.
Setting the Spin
This image speaks to the art of the game, where each spin, curve, and pitch is meticulously calculated. It reminds us that even in sports driven by speed and strength, success is often found in the smallest adjustments, the subtlest touches, and the deliberate focus on technique. Moreover, the Art Print invites viewers to appreciate the fine-tuned mechanics that separate good from great, showing us that behind every powerful action lies a moment of thoughtful preparation.
Strength
This art print captures the foundation of trust and strength required in moments of shared ambition. Multiple hands support the base of a performer, each one playing an essential role in maintaining balance, stability, and safety. The intertwining fingers around the legs and shoes represent teamwork, where each person is crucial in lifting and supporting the weight of another. Moreover, the image symbolizes the power of collaboration, where success is not an individual feat but the result of many working together in perfect harmony.
